Job Responsibilities

  • Supervise Accounts Payable Cycle:
    • Manage invoice receipt, approval, and capture in AP software.
    • Process payment runs for checks/EFT.
    • Distribute and mail checks.
    • Report issued and void items to the bank for positive pay validation.
    • Post EFT transactions in AP software.
  • 1099 Reporting:
    • Handle 1099-MISC, 1099-R & 1099-NEC reporting and mailing to IRS, payees, and/or state entities.
  • Tax Filings:
    • Prepare and review State Premium tax returns, quarterly estimate payments, and other state regulatory filings.
    • Process and review Federal/State Income Tax Withholding payments and returns.
  • Unclaimed Property Inventory:
    • Maintain and supervise inventory.
    • Perform required due diligence.
    • Complete annual filings with states.
  • Quarterly and Annual Close:
    • Record statutory entries and accruals as needed.
  • General Ledger:
    • Prepare and review monthly account reconciliations.
    • Analyze variances for resolution.
  • Audit Inquiries:
    • Respond to inquiries from internal and external auditors.
  • GAAP and STAT Audits:
    • Assist in preparation.
  • State Pages and Schedule Ts:
    • Prepare and/or assist in the creation.
  • Statutory Statements:
    • Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual statutory statements (Blue Books).
    • Include schedules and exhibits in accordance with statutory accounting principles (SAP).
  • Internal Procedures and Efficiencies:
    • Contribute ideas to strengthen.
  • Other Assignments:
    • Perform other department and/or company-related assignments as required.

Skills and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or similar experience.
  • Experience working in insurance companies required.
  • Excellent organizational and referencing skills related to workpapers, financial statements, and schedules prepared.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word) required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
